I’m so excited! we are so close to going away on holidays I feel like I am slowly starting to switch into holiday mode. We like to do a decent holiday once a year. It gives the kids a chance to embrace travel and experience other places then our home town. It always gives us parents a break from the everyday stress of life and work. This year we are heading to Hamilton Island. It’s a small island off the coast of Queensland close to the Great Barrier Reef and full of fun activities. Jamie and I went there for our honeymoon and loved it, so we’re excited to be going back soon.
With this in mind comes the
stressful fun times of packing! It’s a bit like moving house, never sure what you want to take and what you want to leave behind lol. I’ve been looking around for packing lists, packing lists with kids, you name it and haven’t really found anything that made me go yes! this I can relate too. I did come across the 5,4,3,2,1 idea. Similar to capsule wardrobes you pack a certain amount of clothes that all work together and can be switched around to create new outfits.
The theory behind this packing method is,
- 5 tops
- 4 bottoms
- 3 dresses and 3 shoes
- 2 swimmers and 2 bags
- 1 hat, watch and sunnies
So you take a total of about 20 items. Plenty for a 7 day trip way. I’ll pack less for Jamie as he wont take bags. Lilly will take the same amount as me…and most likely end up living in her swimmers and Loki will pack more because lets face it, hes 3 and a boy!
I do like how this guide gives you options in outfit choices, as the stuff you take away will be some of your favorite stuff. It can also be a good starting guide to a capsule wardrobe. One day I’ll start one. Important things to add to your summer packing guide:
- passport (if required)
- books and magazines
- ipod/ipad/phone (and charges)
- snacks and water
I’m so excited to start packing I’ve already started washing all the clothes….it never ends. I’ll be taking a break for our summer holiday but you can follow along with our adventures on Instagram
Thanks for stopping by 🙂
