Hi friend’s, happy Thursday! It’s almost Friday here and I couldn’t be more exciting, one for the weekend and two because we’re having a BBQ and cake for Loki’s 2nd birthday!
My how time flies when you’re having fun. I really can not believe that it has been 2 years since Loki was born. A very fun, challenging and magical 2 years. In light of this wonderful day I thought I would share Loki’s birth story. Looking back it was really a quick day and labour this time was just as fast as the time with Lilly.
7:30pm on a Tuesday night. I was 40 weeks and 5 days. Jamie and I went to the hospital for the “post date” check and I told the lovely midwife that I was not leaving until I had this baby! She just laughed. By this time in my pregnancy I had put on a lot of weight, had trouble sleeping and couldn’t pick anything up off the floor. If it was on the floor and didn’t need to be picked up straight away, it stayed there lol. We lived in a town house at the time and I even had trouble getting up the stairs, as you can believe I was really keen to meet our newest family member.
We went into hospital at 2pm and had a “strip and stretch” (where they check to see how soft the cervix is and see if they can get labour started) it was bar far the most uncomfortable one I had had and I knew today was going to be different. We were having this baby whether I liked it or not. At 4pm I was having contractions and we were “in labour”, at this stage I was still smiling, I felt like I could handle it having gone through it with Lilly, boy was I
Once my waters were broken it was go time. Now I’m talking leave me alone, I need to walk, why is there so much pressure? Oh my, It was happening. So I did what you do, you give your pain up, lean on your birthing partners and know that you are going to meet this wonderful, perfect little human that you grew. In the birthing room was my mum and Jamie and my lovely nurse. We had a strong unit, I wanted to run. My contractions were getting strong and I wasn’t progressing. I was stuck at 4cms and nothing was changing. I was becoming stress, was the baby going to get stuck, what if I can’t do this…..the mind can run away with it’s self some times.
So we decided that we needed to change things up. Like I said I was having this baby on the 1st. I was not leaving. We turned on the TV and rolled my on my side. At this point I laughed. I laughed so much I almost cried. Peter Pan was on the TV, this was Lilly’s favourite movie at the time. It was almost like she was in the room with us. It was a special moment for us and I think that (and rolling on my side) helped welcome our baby into the world.
Half an hour later and Loki Stephen D arrived into this world. 10 lbs 2oz and 49 cms long. He was a big boy. No wonder why I was having trouble at the end.
And with that, our family was complete. We were blessed (and still are) with 2 wonderful, healthy children and we could not have been happier.
So to the little boy who calls me mum, loves me and always wants me “lay down with me” I love you. Words can not express the love for you and your sister. I’m so blessed to have you in my life and that you both call me mum.
Happy 2nd birthday little man.
