After many months of looking, wondering and dreaming we finally made over our laundry! This is our laundry room make over.
I feel like I spent a lot of time on pinterest and visiting over blogs looking for ways to improve our laundry. We didn’t have a big budget or a lot of time and I really did wanted to add value to our home by doing the make over. We succeeded in all accounts, I’m happy to say 🙂
Our laundry is not the biggest one, and I’m always a little jealous of big laundry rooms…but then I think of the cleaning that’s involved and i’m OK with the size of ours.
As you can see from the photo above, the room was nothing special. It had a window that looked on to our sun room (but was too high to have any real function) wire storage that was funny sizing and no folding space. So after a number of trips to Bunning we found what we wanted and went full out. Our laundry make over took us one weekend! There was lots of late night painting and sanding lol. Our laundry has a long folding bench, 2 cupboards and a storage cube unit. Plus our washer and dryer.
To achieve our new amazing space, first we removed everything for the room, cleaned up the mess and patched up the walls. We also patched up the window.
Once the window was plastered we had to wait for it to dry, before we could sand it back and then paint. At this point I think we broke for a much needed coffee! After that we left Jamie to build the cupboards and the storage unit and we went and brought the bench. This pretty much took us to the end of day one. I was able to sand back the now boarded up window and paint. I think it was about 1am before I finished….it was a long night!
However it was so worth it! On Sunday we were able to add the finishing touches and pull it all together.
We cut a hole in the bench to fit our new sink (brought for a kitchen 2nd warehouse – great option), moved the cupboards in, put up the storage unit and moved the washer and dryer in. We have a tall cupboard, a small cupboard for under the sink and this shelving unit (but without the doors)
The shelving unit is mounted to the wall, so it wont fall down and we also picked up some storage cubes. This awesome things hold our hats, lost socks, sunscreen and picture hanging tools. The unit adds extra storage and was a great find.
Not bad for a weekends work! Excuse the Halloween bucket, the tap was leaking and we had to replace it. LOL but I really didn’t notice it when I took the photos.
The laundry has come a really long way and it makes such an impact. I’m so pleased that we got so much storage space and it’s so functional. I have somewhere to fold clothes other then the lounge room! This was our first big DIY project for the house.
Our plan is one room a month. I’m calling it my One Room Challenge.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you liked out new and improved space. It makes me happy each time I walk in….and then I see all. the. laundry.
